I knew I needed to do something to get these little kiddos on track with sight word fluency. For struggling students, this can easily throw them off. However, our AIMSweb progress monitoring and most of the books we read have a kind of Times New Roman font to them. My flashcards currently are a nice “handprint” font. Practice your penmanship with these handwriting worksheets. As strange as that may sound, I do believe this change in font makes a difference. Press play on the powerpoint, and the work is done for you Students read the sight word on the slide and they find it on their sheet and color in the box. Also available are worksheets focused on writing individual cursive words and cursive letters. I believe it is a combination of putting an entire phrase together AND seeing the words in a variety of font. The focus is on spelling but can assist students with recognition. It contains words from the Dolch Sight Word list. However, these same students will see the word “was” within our guided reading book or our AIMSweb assessments, and begin to tap out or sound the word out. They are awesome at flashcards and can read the word “was” quickly and effortlessly.
